ASSOC. PROF. ANDREIA PROKOPIEV ANDREEV, MD, PhD, FICA
CV
Born
in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, after high school graduation Mr. Andreev
went to the Medical Faculty in Sofia and 6 years later got his MD
diploma.
Following
a complete course of general surgery at the Military Medical Academy
(MMA) in Sofia, in 1970 he became a certified surgeon and regular
staff member of the Cardiovascular and Thoracic surgery clinic in
MMA.
In
1977 he presented a Ph.D. thesis and was appointed as a Head of
Vascular surgery department at the same clinic.
From
1987 Mr. Andreev left the MMA after being elected as an Associate
Professor of Surgery at the Medical Faculty of the Thracian University
in Stara Zagora. Later on he was elected as a Head of Vascular surgery
clinic at the University Hospital in Stara Zagora and Head of the
Chair of Special surgery at the Medical Faculty of the Thracian
University. From 01.01.2005 Mr. Andreev returns to MMA as a consulting
vascular surgeon and main coordinator of the clinical vascular center
at MMA.
Mr.
Andreev has founded the vascular surgical department in Stara Zagora
where four qualified vascular surgeons continue their practice.
For the last 16 years he has been University Lecturer of Cardiovascular
and Thoracic surgery and Angiology at the Medical Faculty in Stara
Zagora.
Mr.
Andreev has 35 years experience in surgery acquiring three surgical
specialties: General surgery, Military surgery and Vascular surgery.
He has worked in the field of Thoracic and Cardiac surgery for years
but in the last 20 years accentuated mostly on Vascular surgery
and Angiology. Mr. Andreev has gained a profound experience in operations
on the aorta and arteries, vascular emergencies, vascular grafts'
development and application, vascular trauma, vascular access surgery,
phlebosurgery etc. He is familiar also with diagnostic and therapeutic
techniques in the field of Angiology. Under his supervision a new
vascular graft and a modified valvulotome have been developed and
implemented in Bulgaria.
Mr.
Andreev has 128 scientific publications, some of which reported
to International Meetings or published in International Journals.
His papers are in the scope of diagnostics, surgical and non-surgical
treatment of vascular diseases, reports on experimental studies
or vascular trauma. Mr. Andreev is the Chief-Editor and Principal
Author of the book "Vascular Diseases" (1998, Sofia, 310p.).
From
1988 till now Mr. Andreev has been a member of European Society
of Vascular Surgery (ESVS) and has taken part in all meetings of
the society, incl. in Dublin (2003) and Innsbruck (2004). From 2003
Mr. Andreev has been approved as Councilor (board's member) of the
ESVS. He has participated to the "Frank Veith Symposium"
in New York (1990); the National Vascular meetings in Romania (Kluj)
and Turkey (Urgup) in 1992; the "Charing Cross hospital"
meetings in London (1993,2003,2004,2005); the International Congress
of Phlebology in Corfu (Greece-1996); the Mediterranean Congress
of Angiology and Vascular Surgery in Cyprus (1996); the EUROCHAP'99
in Rodos (Greece); the World Congresses of International College
of Angiology (ICA) in San Diego (2000), Berlin (2001) and New York
(2002), where his report won a special reward; the World Congresses
of the International Union of Angiology (IUA) in London (1995),
New York (2002) and Rome (2004), where he was elected as Member
of the IUA Administrative Board; to all vascular meetings in Bulgaria
etc. In 1991 he was Chairman of the "First Bulgarian Symposium
of Vascular Surgery and Angiology" in Sofia and in 2003, in
Sofia again, he was chairman of the "First Bulgarian Vascular-Endovascular
Meeting" with wide international participation. Mr. Andreev
has been elected as a Honorary Member of the Angiological Society
of Romania in 1991, as a Fellow of the American College of Angiology
in 1993, as a Secretary General of the Balkan Society of Angiology
and Vascular Surgery in 1995, as a Vice President of the Bulgarian
Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery, as an Editor in Chief
of the Bulgarian journals "Angiology & Vascular Surgery"
and "Vascular Diseases", consequently. From March 2002
Mr. Andreev has been elected as a President of the Bulgarian Association
of Vascular Surgeons (BAVS, see www.bavs-bg.org), and Editor-in-Chief
of the "Vascular Diseases" Journal. From August 2002 he
has become a member of the Editorial Board of the "International
Journal of Angiology" and Vice-President of the ICA (New York).
Mr. Andreev is still working hard and has special interest in the
field of Vascular surgery and Angiology, Phlebology, Vascular Malformations,
Vascular trauma, etc.
Mr.
Andreev is married and has 3 children. He is physically fit, wares
